Hello,
You might be wondering why Nkumbulo decided to create a website or a blog. That’s a valid question, and I’m pleased to address it in my first post on the site in question. It’s a long story, but I’ll try to keep it brief.
For those who may not know, I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville Campus. During my time there, I faced personal issues that I prefer not to disclose. I sought the help of a psychologist and shared my concerns with her. We had an extensive session where I expressed how my field of study, Accountancy, sometimes didn’t align with my personal interests.
She inquired about my interests, and I seized the opportunity to explain. I told her that my main interests lie in religion, psychology, philosophy, and politics. However, I should clarify: my passion is stronger for religion and psychology, while philosophy and politics? Not as much. I can’t recall our exact conversation, but she made a remark along the lines of, “Ah, so your interest is in human studies?” to which I replied, “Exactly.” She then suggested that to balance out the suppression of my interests in pursuit of my professional career, I should start a blog. This was an excellent idea!
This is why we’re here—a blog it is! This conversation happened a long time ago, probably during my second or third year at university. I’ve been postponing this idea for some time, and the reason is simple: we’re all afraid of stepping out of our comfort zone. However, through my deep conversations with people over the years (not just small talk), many have told me that a blog—or even a podcast—where I share my thoughts wouldn’t be a bad idea. Ah, there seems to be a market for my ideas.
My interest is in human beings! Or more precisely, in human nature. Once you start a conversation with me about humans, you’ll notice my eyes light up, and the passion with which I engage you. You can tell someone’s interest when their eyes sparkle, and they lose track of time. Take a moment and ask yourself these questions: What makes your eyes light up? What makes you lose track of time? Yes, that’s your interest.
In conclusion, the purpose of this blog is for me, Nkumbulo Majula, to share my reflections on subjects that occupy my mind at any given moment. In doing so, I hope to connect with individuals who share similar interests (and even those who don’t but occasionally wish to hear my thoughts on certain topics).
We do not choose our interests; they choose us. Thank you for reading; be on the lookout for more posts to come.
